This Opportunity

We are seeking a Technician – Industrial Hygienist to join our team on an as-needed part-time basis!  You will support and conduct industrial hygiene assessments/surveys at shops and other maintenance facilities at federal facilities by detecting health hazards, including those caused by airborne contaminants, toxic substances, and harmful physical agents, by observing and analyzing work operations and processes, materials, equipment, work habits of facility occupants, and interviewing facility occupants. Additionally, you will be responsible for measuring the magnitude of exposure to workers of all environmental hazards by executing standard tests, such as collecting and analyzing chemical samples, taking noise measurements, and comparing findings to established occupational health and safety standards.

Your Key Responsibilities 

Critical success factors involve maintaining high utilization, a high regard to field safety and effective communication and include the following responsibilities:

  • Audits programs and conditions at facilities; provides written reports of findings with recommendations for improvement (where needed); and follows up on implementation
  • Reviews present and proposed standards and surveys new facilities
  • Assist with drafting of planning documents, reports, and data entry
  • This position requires the flexibility to serve as a cross-disciplinary
  • Follow direction of site management while keeping safety in the forefront of all activities
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment
  • Utilize and maintain field equipment in accordance with Bay West SOPs
  • Help resolve problems as they arise in the field
  • Able to form trusted relationships with clients, subcontractors, consultants, and facility occupants

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree (2-year program at a minimum) from an accredited institution in Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Public Health, Engineering, Biology, Environmental Science, or a related technical field that included 12 semester hours of industrial hygiene related courses. 
  • Minimum 2 years’ work experience in industrial hygiene assessments and surveys.
  • Experience working with a wide range of exposure assessment sampling methods and relevant analytical methods including real-time instrumentation.
  • Experience with Defense Occupational and Environmental Health Readiness System (DOEHRS) data management program. 
  • Must be able to secure a company sponsored and government issued Common Access Card
  • Demonstrated commitment to following safety protocols including use of appropriate PPE
  • Able to perform in a highly dynamic work environment, prioritize appropriately, and be highly responsive
  • Able to work productively with all levels of the organization
  • Must be willing to travel to sites (shops and other maintenance facilities)

Preferred Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science; or a bachelor’s degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER with current 8-hour Refresher
  • OSHA 30-hour General Industry
  • Experience or demonstrated knowledge of Federal OSHA, NIOSH, USEPA, DOT, Radiation Safety, NFPA 70e, and other regulatory requirements
  • Technical writer well versed in drafting industrial hygiene planning document and reports.
